Short version: a good golf course voicemail greeting takes under 20 seconds. It says why nobody picked up, gives your online booking address, and tells callers exactly what to leave (name, number, what they need) and when you'll call back. Change it whenever conditions or hours change.

What makes a greeting work
- Say the booking website slowly, and the short version of it. Most callers just want a tee time.
- Promise a time, then keep it. "We'll call you back today" only works if someone does.
- Ask for what you need to call back: name, number, and what it's about. It saves a round of phone tag.
- Keep it current. Yesterday's frost delay on today's greeting costs you trust. If you use one standard greeting, leave out anything that changes daily.
- Skip the long hellos. Put the booking address and the callback promise first, before anything else.
When voicemail isn't enough
Voicemail can't answer "are you on cart path only?" or "how much is 18 after 2?" and many golfers hang up rather than leave a message. If your phone rings more than staff can answer, an AI receptionist can answer those questions from your approved information and take callbacks for the rest. See the Saturday phone playbook for all the options, and the missed-call calculator to see what unanswered calls cost.
Frequently asked questions
What should a golf course voicemail greeting say?
Why nobody picked up, your online booking address, what to leave (name, number, what it's about), and when you'll call back. Keep it under 20 seconds.
How long should a pro shop voicemail greeting be?
Under 20 seconds. Put the booking website and the callback promise early, so callers hear them even if they hang up partway through.
Should I change the voicemail greeting for frost delays?
Yes, if your greeting mentions conditions at all. Say the expected start time and what happens to tee times, and change it back as soon as the delay lifts.
